Before the court case brown vs. the board off education there was school segregation. Many values to school integration like learning about a new culture, equal opportunity, and it helps the community.
My second value is equal opportunity. With equal opportunity comes equal educational opportunity. For example in the 1920’s through the 1950’s schools were segregated so no one had the opportunity to see what the other schools where like. Also, an extra curricular activity in our out of school not like the 1900’s where you weren’t allowed you to play on the white team. For example, hank arron was one of the best colored baseball players ever. But you know how hard he worked and how much time it took to get him on a pro baseball team and it was during the segregation period. A third and final value is that it helps the community in many ways. With school integration the community around it is diverse because people move closer to the school. For example, in the 1950’s the school were segregated which meant that the communities were only colored or white depending were the school was. Another way is that people learn and share from the cultural diverse in the community. For example, in the 1950’s with the communities divide people didn’t know how the lived. In conclusion, those are my three reasons on the value of school integration. Learning a new culture, equal opportunity, and helps the community. Wow if that doesn’t so you the value of school integration then I don’t know what will. Citation sheet http:// brownvboard.org/ http://dictionary.reference.com/ |
